Think defense. The Seahawks are. The club has received an extra third-round compensatory pick and it is not out of the question that each of their first-day selections will be a defensive player. The most obvious needs are at linebacker, defensive end and cornerback. They need not only players capable of contributing immediately, but also depth. So, the Seahawks could go in any of those directions in any round, but it depends on the players that are available. Some that would be good fits are defensive ends Dan Cody (Oklahoma), Matt Roth (Iowa), Bill Swancutt (Oregon State) and David Pollack (Georgia), linebackers Darryl Blackstock (Virginia) and Barrett Ruud (Nebraska) and cornerbacks Carlos Rogers (Auburn) and Corey Webster (LSU). One thing to remember, which has become apparent in free agency: the new president of football operations wants high-character players, not characters.
