The offense was stuck at flat line in the first half, when it amassed just 67 yards. They also squandered opportunities, throwing away a promising third quarter drive when quarterback Matt Hasselbeck committed the cardinal sin of throwing the ball in the direction of Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey.

Perhaps the football Gods were smiling on the Seahawks, a team that had experienced little luck with a devastating series of injuries earlier in the season.

Let it snow

Some people in Seattle are very upset about the recent snow in Seattle, but not star running back Shaun Alexander who frolicked in the snow Monday night at Quest Field.

It was the first time it ever snowed during a Seattle Seahawks home game, and look at the difference the cold and the snow made. The Seahawks are now 7-4 and confident after Monday night in the snow. The week before in the heat and sun of San Francisco Seattle was humiliated losing 20-14.

The good news is that the Seahawks have 2 more home games with the chance of snow, but 3 away games of which the only one that has the possibility of snow is in Denver coming up on Sunday. However, the prospects for snow Sunday in Denver are practically non-existent. Although it wasn’t his on the field problems that caused him to get the boot, it was his off the field problems with alcohol.

Should we have let him go?

INSIDE DISH:

- from FOXSports.com

Tim Ruskell, the Seahawks new president of football operations, has made a habit of finding backup quarterbacks in the third round of the draft. It happened in Tampa in 2003, when the Buccaneers selected Chris Simms. It also happened in Atlanta last year, when the Falcons took Matt Schaub. This year, it was David Greene for the Seahawks. But don't expect coach Mike Holmgren to be satisfied with a rookie, no matter how good he might look in minicamps and training camp. The veteran free-agent cupboard is pretty bare right now, but the Seahawks will continue to shop for a backup to Matt Hasselbeck for two reasons. First, injuries forced Hasselbeck to miss two games last season and Trent Dilfer (now with the Browns) stepped in to win both. Also, the Seahawks beat Simms and Schaub last season.

Rebuilding Together

Members of the Seattle Seahawks along with Rebuilding Together (an organization established to assist families in need) have grouped together to rebuild and refurbish the home of someone in an unfortunate predicament. Mili not only looked heavy during the three-day mandatory camp, but he was. He reportedly checked in at 290 pounds. Stevens, meanwhile, has dropped 12 pounds. Even more important, Stevens rarely dropped a pass while making plays in the passing game. . . .

Speaking of injuries, the inactivity of tackles Cedric Woodard (ankle) and Rashad Moore (shoulder), end Bryce Fisher (foot), cornerback Marcus Trufant (shoulder) and free safety Ken Hamlin (shoulder), who are rehabbing from surgeries, made it difficult to gage just how much the Seahawks have improved a defense that ranked No. 26 in the league last season. But the offense needs even more from Jackson this season. Perhaps not in sheer numbers, but Jackson needs to become more consistent -- which starts with reducing the number of passes he has dropped the past two years. Most of Jackson's drops have come in clusters at midseason, and he has bounced back nicely each year. But this season, with the uncertainty over Koren Robinson's role with the team and who might step in to replace him if needed, Jackson becomes an even more vital cog to the passing game. The Seahawks are. The club has received an extra third-round compensatory pick and it is not out of the question that each of their first-day selections will be a defensive player. The most obvious needs are at linebacker, defensive end and cornerback. They need not only players capable of contributing immediately, but also depth. So, the Seahawks could go in any of those directions in any round, but it depends on the players that are available. Some that would be good fits are defensive ends Dan Cody (Oklahoma), Matt Roth (Iowa), Bill Swancutt (Oregon State) and David Pollack (Georgia), linebackers Darryl Blackstock (Virginia) and Barrett Ruud (Nebraska) and cornerbacks Carlos Rogers (Auburn) and Corey Webster (LSU). One thing to remember, which has become apparent in free agency: the new president of football operations wants high-character players, not characters.

Chad Brown Receives Ed Block Award

Chad Brown was awarded the 2004 Ed Block Courage Award. Brown received this on March 8th in Baltimore.

Brown came to the Seahawks back in 1997. In searching for a reason why the Seahawks tumbled from a ranking of No. 8 at midseason to No. 26 by seasons end, look at the play of the linebackers. Injuries forced Rhodes to use too many players whose contributions should be limited to special teams. At one point, the "starters" were Solomon Bates and Isaiah Kacyvenski outside and Orlando Huff in the middle. That's why just-signed Kevin Bentley looms large in the Seahawks' plans, even though he wasn't even tendered a restricted free-agent offer by the Browns. Bentley could start on the strong side, allowing veteran Chad Brown to be used primarily on passing downs in his 13th NFL season. D.D. Lewis is expected to replace just-released Anthony Simmons on the weak side, and Niko Koutouvides should be more consistent in his second season in the middle. But there's still the problem of generating a better pass rush, which won't be easy with the departure of defensive end Chike Okeafor.

Kevin Bentley

The Seattle Seahawks have acquired Kevin Bentley from the Cleveland Browns. They have been among the league leaders the past two seasons, when drops cost them the opportunity to host a playoff game in 2003 and win one for the first time in 20 years last season. It's not just former first-round draft choice WR Koren Robinson, who is wrestling with personal demons and recently completed a 30-day stay in an alcohol rehab program. Leading WR Darrell Jackson also has struggled with midseason cases of the drops in each of the past two seasons and usually reliable No. 3 WR Bobby Engram had a couple of end-zone drops in game-winning situations last season. The coaches have tried concentration drills before and after practice, and the players have done pushups for drops in practice. But a better remedy must be found, because the Seahawks offense will never reach its full potential until the receivers reduce the number of dropped passes.

Seattle signs Walter Jones

-from the Official Site of the Seattle Seahawks

KIRKLAND - The Seattle Seahawks have signed All-Pro left tackle Walter Jones to a multi-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.

"It's a great feeling, I always wanted to stay in Seattle," said Jones, who signed the contract at home in Alabama. "My goal now is to help the team get to the next level, get to that big game, the Super Bowl."

"It's a big thing for the Seahawks," said Mike Reinfeldt on the signing. "He's been such a good player, five Pro Bowls, and he's such an integral part of what we do; and I hope getting him signed gives us some momentum with the other guys. Walter's a great player, he wants to be here, he's a good team guy, he's a good guy in the lockerroom, and hopefully it sends the message to the other players that keeping it together is important to everybody."

Jones completed his eighth season in 2004 and was named to his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl, fifth career, and earned Associated Press First-Team All-Pro honors for the second time in his career (2001).

The Seahawks named Jones their franchise player from 2002-04, spending each offseason unable to agree to a long-term deal until today.

"It feels kind of weird," said Jones on not facing another franchise tag. "You never know what's going to happen when the season is over, and I got the call yesterday that the deal was done, and I'm glad that it got taken care of."

Not having to use the franchise tag on Jones gives the Seahawks more leverage in some of the other free agent negotiations going on.

Originally selected by the Seahawks as the sixth overall pick in the 1997 draft, Jones has started all 122 career games played at left tackle.

And of course, this means a return to Cheney and training camp this summer for Walter.

"I'm going to have to ask some of the guys what to do once I get there, I haven't been there in so long," said Jones. "But I'm looking forward to it."

Seahawks and Unrestricted Free Agents

The Seahawks need to watch out with their free agents. A great number of the players (17 to be exact), including 9 starters, will be entering unrestricted free agent status. This list includes quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, Alex Bannister, Walter Jones, and Shaun Alexander; all participants in the 2004 Pro Bowl.

So what are the Seahawks going to do? This has created a lot of possible drama. The team needs to have some of these players to stay behind or the upcoming year will truly prove detrimental to the franchise.

In order to bring a little peace around the office, the team has brought in Mike Reinfeldt. Reinfeldt was brought back as a consultant. He has worked with the Seahawks before.

“The important thing is we've got a lot of work to do in the next 30 days, a lot of players to sign and some cap issues we need to deal with. He also leads the NFC in scoring (96), rushing touchdowns (12), and total touchdowns (16).

Alexander, who tied a Pro Bowl record with three total touchdowns last season in his first appearance, became the first player in NFL history to score 15 total touchdowns in four consecutive seasons. This season, he and San Diego’s LaDainian Tomlinson joined Earl Campbell, Eric Dickerson and Walter Payton as the only backs in League history to rush for 10 or more touchdowns in four consecutive seasons.

Alexander has totaled 58 career rushing touchdowns and this year eclipsed Curt Warner’s franchise record of 55.

For Jones, this will mark his fourth consecutive trip to the NFL’s annual all-star game, fifth overall (1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004). Jones was the first and only Seattle offensive lineman to have ever been selected to participate in the Pro Bowl until Steve Hutchinson joined him in Hawaii last season. His fifth selection ties him with Kenny Easley for the third-most in team history behind Cortez Kennedy (8) and Steve Largent (7).

This will mark Hutchinson’s second consecutive trip to Hawaii.

Hutchinson and Jones have started all 14 games this season and have served as the foundation for the NFL’s seventh-ranked offense. They have helped put Alexander in a position to break the franchise’s rushing record. He needs just 84 yards to break Chris Warren’s 1994 record of 1,545. The two have also helped Alexander rush for 150 or more yards four times this season including a season-high 195 versus Carolina (10/31).

When running behind Hutchinson and Jones, Seattle has gained 631 yards on 103 attempts (6.1 avg.). No other left side in the NFL has been as productive. New England has the next best total running left having gained 580 yards on 23 more attempts (4.6 avg.). Seattle is only one of three teams in the NFL to average better than 6 yards running left.

Seahawks K Josh Brown, QB Matt Hasselbeck, CB Ken Lucas and FB Mack Strong are alternates and will make the trip if a selected player is injured or chooses not to play.

Game Summary

from the official site of the Seattle Hawks

Enough with losing the late leads. The Seahawks made the big plays down the stretch when they needed them to hang for a 27-23 win against the Vikings.

The play of the game has to go to Michael Boulware's interception of a Randy Moss pass into the endzone that snuffed a potential go-ahead touchdown with a little over two minutes to play. The rookie strong safety, making his first start of the season for the Seahawks, leaped in front of intended receiver Marcus Robinson for the snatch and came down with his fifth pick of the season.

The player of the game has to go to Darrell Jackson. Jackson learned before the game that his father had passed away from cancer, yet elected to go ahead and play in what turned out to be one of his best games of the season. Jackson had 10 catches for 135 yards and a touchdown, and one can only imagine the level of concentration after losing a parent.

"I talked to him before the game and said 'you don't have to play', and he said 'no, I need to'," said Mike Holmgren. "I think it's going to hit him in the next couple of days."

"It wasn't a tough decision to play," said Jackson. "It's what my father would've wanted."

The win for Seattle, now 7-6, gives them a one-game lead atop the NFC West over St. Louis (6-7), who lost 20-7 at Carolina.

The Seahawks defined the term "gut check" in their performance. Facing one of the NFL's top offenses, a patch-work defense held quarterback Daunte Culpepper and the Vikings in check, while Matt Hasselbeck turned in another outstanding effort in leading the offense with three touchdown passes in the first half.

Hasselbeck attributes his good performance to being healthy again. "It's nice to have your legs back and be able to run around and push off when you throw," said Hasselbeck afterwards."

The Seahawks injury list took another hit on defense, with Grant Wistrom suffering a sprained left knee late in the fourth quarter. Wistrom had to be helped off the field and was carted to the locker room for examination.

The Seahawks offensive line played without Steve Hutchinson, who was sidelined with the flu, and Chris Terry, who is out for the year with a shoulder injury. Jerry Wunsch stepped in for Hutchinson at left guard and Floyd Womack took over for Terry at right tackle. The substitutions didn't hurt the team's ground game, with Shaun Alexander gaining 112 yards on 27 carries, and the offense gained 455 total yards to 374 for the Vikings.

The game didn't have a great start for the Seahawks, who found themselves in an early 10-0 hole in the first quarter. After the Vikings scored on a field goal, the Seahawks had a chance to tie the game on a 38-yard field goal. But Josh Brown hooked it and the ball sailed wide left, breaking a streak of 16-consecutive field goals made this season.

Minnesota answered with a 6-play drive that saw Marcus Trufant whistled for pass interference on the first play, a 31-yard penalty that put the ball at the Seattle 41. Five plays later Ontario Smith's 5-yard run into the endzone increased the Vikings' lead to 10-0.

The Seahawks used a very efficient offense in their next two possessions. The first was a 6-play, 80-yard drive that ended with Hasselbeck's 35-yard strike to a wide open Bobby Engram, who sailed untouched into the endzone. 10-7 Vikings entering the second quarter.

Hasselbeck was 4-for-4 passing in the next possession, hitting Alexander with a 12-yard touchdown completion for a 14-10 Seattle lead. The drive was highlighted by a 36-yard completion to tight end Ryan Hannam to the Vikings 12.

Minnesota answered with a field goal, and then got the ball back when cornerback Brian Williams intercepted a Hasselbeck pass intended for Jackson at the Seattle 49. The Vikings used a 10-play drive that ended with a 3-yard pass to Randy Moss in the endzone to take a 20-14 lead.

A 37-yard kick return by Maurice Morris to the Seattle 40 helped set up another quick touchdown drive. Hasselbeck was 3-for-3 for 46 yards on that drive, with his 19-yard pass to a wide-open Jackson in the endzone giving the Seahawks a 21-20 lead at halftime.

The third quarter saw the Vikings get their second interception of the game, this time free safety Brian Russells picked off a pass intended for Jerheme Urban and returned it to the Seattle 41. Minnesota converted the turnover into an eventual 31-yard field goal to take a 23-21 lead.

The Seahawks came back with a 9-play, 60-yard drive, with Josh Brown's 33-yard field goal putting the Seahawks back on top 24-23.

And the 'Hawks defense would make sure that lead would stick.

Both teams would trade possessions entering the fourth quarter, and the Seahawks forced a break their way when Niko Koutouvides pressured Culpepper on the snap at the Minnesota 26, forcing a fumble that was recovered by Rashad Moore. The Seahawks then burned nearly three minutes off the clock, and a 28-yard field goal extended the lead to 27-23.

The Vikings got a break on their following drive when Seahawks free safety Marquand Manuel was called for defensive pass interference in an incompletion to Randy Moss. That spotted the ball at the Seattle 31 with under three minutes to play. Michael Bennet's 11-yard run up the middle to the 20 gave the Vikings a first down with barely two minutes remaining.

Time enough for Michael Boulware to shut down any scoring threat.

Boulware perfectly read Randy Moss' pass into the endzone and timed his leap for the clean interception, giving the Seahawks the ball at their own 20 with a little over two minutes to play.

"This will give us confidence," said Boulware. "We've been down, but we know that we'll never give up."

Facing a 3rd and 7 at their own 23, the Vikings expected the run while the Seahawks elected for the pass, with Hasselbeck's 37-yard bomb finding Darrell Jackson in stride down the right sideline for a huge first down.

"Mike called a huge play; they were expecting a run and we made a huge play," said Hasselbeck on Holmgren's call for the 3rd-down pass. "We've been in situations this year where we've played conservative and it's come back to bite us."

The Seahawks kept the ball on the ground to eat up the clock and punted away with under a minute remaining in the game.

The Vikings were out of timeouts and used a hurry-up offense to pull to the Seattle 28. Culpepper spiked the ball with four seconds to play, and on the final play he was brought down by Antonio Cochran to end the game. Culpepper got up and threw an incompletion into the endzone to Jermaine Wiggins, but Culpepper's knee had touched the ground prior to the throw.

"It happened right in front of me," said Holmgren on the final play. "I saw Culpepper go down and I ran out there and hugged Cochran. The referee was close to me and I heard him say 'game over'."

And as topsy turvy as the season has been for the Seahawks, it's really no surprise that they come away with the win. Last week they lose a heartbreaker they were favored to win. This week they win a shootout in which they were the underdog.

The Seahawks locker room was a very happy place following the game.

"It would be louder in there if everyone wasn't so 'danged tired," said Holmgren afterwards.

"I'm very, very proud of the players."

Monday Night Football Returns

from Seahawks.com

Monday Night Football returns to the Emerald City this week when the Seahawks (6-5) host the Dallas Cowboys (4-7) on December 6. The Seahawks are 12-7 all-time on Monday night, including losses in their last two prime time appearances.

The Seahawks have never lost more than two consecutive games on Monday Night Football in their 19 appearances. Seattle last hosted Monday’s prime-time audience on October 14, 2002, in a game against San Francisco, which the 49ers won 28-21.

The last time Seattle hosted a Monday Night game before 2002 was November 30, 1992, when the Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos 16-13 in overtime.

The Seahawks did not play on Monday Night from 1993-98, but returned on November 1, 1999, when they traveled to Green Bay and won 27-7. That win capped a five-game Monday Night Football win streak from 1988 to 1999. The Seahawks lost an October 2, 2000 matchup at Kansas City by a 24-17 final score.

The Cowboys trail only the Miami Dolphins (70) with 64 all-time Monday Night Football appearances and are 37-27 in those games.

This will be the ninth all-time meeting between Seattle and Dallas, with the Cowboys holding a 5-3 advantage.

Seattle has won the last two contests in the series with a 17-14 win at Dallas on October 27, 2002, and a 29-3 win at Seattle’s Husky Stadium on December 16, 2001.
Before the 2001 meeting at Husky Stadium, the Seahawks played three consecutive games at Texas Stadium, notching a 31-14 win on November 27, 1986, before dropping two games in 1992 and 1998.

Before that 1986 Seahawks win, the Cowboys won the first three all-time games played in 1976, 1980 and 1983.

Keep on Rolling

from the offical site of the Seattle Seahawks

SAN FRANCISCO - Remember that Seahawks team a year ago that used to run and throw the ball up and down the field and seemingly scored at will? That high-powered offense made a welcome return Sunday, and San Francisco found out about it the hard way in a 42-27 Seattle win.

This was a Seattle team fit for it's own episode of MASH coming into the game after a recent bout of injuries. But credit the toughness of some hobbled veterans and the depth on the roster for some inspiring play.

"That's the kind of commitment the players have made to the team and their teammates," said Matt Hasselbeck on the walking wounded. "The mental toughness is inspiring."

Matt Hasselbeck's hot arm garnered him a 130.8 quarterback rating for the day while completing 17 of 28 pass attempts for 285 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions. Shaun Alexander had a sub-par day on the ground compared to last week's 195-yard outing. But his 160 yards on 26 carries (6.2 yards/carry average) was the key to the Seahawks putting together a number of long scoring drives.

Even Jerheme Urban, called up from the practice squad last week, caught two passes for 50 yards: the first good for 17 yards in the second quarter, and topped by a 33-yard reception in the third quarter. Both plays were key parts of two touchdown drives by the Seahawks.

Hasselbeck connected with 8 different receivers during the course of the game, with Jackson the high man with 5 receptions for 114 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jerry Rice received a warm ovation from the fans in his return to the stadium that made him famous, and he caught one pass for 5 yards.

The Hawks once again used the run and pass combo to great affect, putting together a 15-play, 86-yard drive in the second quarter that resulted in Alexander's first touchdown. The 7 minute, 29 second drive ate up half of the quarter clock.

"We run right at people, and after I get in the hole I become an athlete," said Alexander on his carries. "I think the power game is easier if you know you're going to get the ball again. It's easier to pound it in there."

But the drive of the season came in the third quarter with the Seahawks pinned back on their own six yard line. Facing a 3th & 10, Mike Holmgren dialed up a running play for Alexander, who broke loose for a 13-yard carry off left tackle to get the Seahawks out of trouble. "I think it was a great call that Mike made," said Hasselbeck on Alexander's 13-yard carry. "They played soft and rushed four, and we worked on that play in training camp and it's paying off."

Alexander followed with three successive carries of 9, 9 and 7 yards to put the Hawks at their own 44, and Hasselbeck followed with a 17-yard completion to tight end Ryan Hannam, yes, Ryan Hannam, to spot the ball at the 49ers 40. Facing a 3rd & 9 from the 39, Hasselbeck rifled a bomb down the right sideline for Koren Robinson, who ducked the defender and raced down the sideline for his first touchdown of the season. 94 yards in 11 plays.

The game didn't start off well for the Seahawks, or Hasselbeck for that matter, who was sacked twice on the first possession for a quick three and out. "They came with pressure early, and that happens sometimes," said Hasselbeck on the opening drive. "We made some adjustments at halftime and then it wasn't a problem."

A 27-yard punt by Donnie Jones gave the 49ers good field position at the Seahawks 21. Running back Kevin Barlow accounted for all the yardage in a 3-play scoring drive to put the 49ers on the board 7-0.

Both teams traded possessions, and a 27-yard punt by the 49ers had the Seahawks set up at the San Francisco 33. Alexander was stopped for no gain on the first play, and on 2nd & 10 Hasselbeck hooked up on a 33-yard pass to Darrell Jackson down the middle to tie the game at 7.

"The guys in the training room did a great job getting me ready," said Jackson on his recovery from the ankle sprain he suffered in the Carolina game. "It's a little sore now, but it will get better."

The 49ers came back with a 69-yard drive, and quarterback Tim Rattay's 28-yard touchdown pass to receiver Curtis Conway put them back on top 14-7.

The Seahawks got a scare early in the second quarter when Ken Lucas landed awkwardly on his chest while defending a play, and was later placed on a cart and sent to the locker room. "He'll be in the hospital overnight, he has a chest contusion," said Mike Holmgren on the cornerback. "We'll say a prayer for him, and he should be alright."

Both teams traded possessions, and then the Seahawks put together their 86-yard scoring drive, with Alexander's 1-yard carry at the end to tie the score at 14.

Three carries by Barlow netted 8 yards, and the Seahawks got the ball back with 4:33 remaining in the first half. Seattle's drive appeared to stall at the 49ers 39 when a Hasselbeck pass to Robinson fell incomplete. But a pass interference call on defender Shawntae Spencer spotted the ball at the 25. On the following play, Hasselbeck hit Jackson with a 21-yard completion down the right sideline to the 4, and Alexander followed with a 4-yard carry into the endzone to put Seattle on top 21-14.

"Our offensive line is really putting it together now, and I'm so proud of those guys," said Alexander on the blocks and holes he was getting. "We've been putting together good games and drives, and our passing game opened it up for us today."

The 49ers ran their two-minute offense to pull to the Seattle 9 with 11 seconds remaining, and Tod Peterson's 27-yard field goal made it a 21-17 game at the half.

San Francisco drew first blood in the third quarter with a 39-yard touchdown pass from Rattay to receiver Brandon Lloyd for a 24-21 49ers lead.

The following possession had the Seahawks offense barely on the field. Starting from the Seattle 27, Hasselbeck hit Jerheme Urban up the middle with a 33-yard completion to the SF 40. Hasselbeck followed with a 15-yard completion to Jerramy Stevens to the 25, and then came the coup de grace: a 25-yard touchdown pass to Koren Robinson for a 28-24 Seattle lead. Hasselbeck was 3 for 3 for 73 yards on the drive, and he wasn't done yet.

The Hawks put together their 94-yard scoring drive with a little over 6 minutes to play in the third quarter. Alexander accounted for 39 yards of it on 5 carries, and Hasselbeck's 39-yard touchdown pass to Robinson capped the 11-play drive for a 35-24 Seahawks lead.

Tod Peterson's 30-yard field goal closed the gap to 35-27 with 11 minutes to play in the fourth quarter. The Seahawks next possession got as close as the SF 47 followed by a punt, with Maurice Hicks muffing the catch and then tackled by Tracy White at the 15.

In the sequence that followed, Anthony Simmons describes how he sealed the win for Seattle:

"He didn't see me, and I saw the 'outside flood', as we call it, and we ran zone pressure. I cut underneath the tight end and made the play."

Simmons' description of his interception and 23-yard touchdown return off a Rattay pass intended for receiver Cedric Wilson effectively broke the 49ers' back, as the Seahawks hang on for a 42-27 final score. The Hawks have now had at least one interception in each of their last 13 games.

"It was a wild one, and we feel very good," said Holmgren following the game. "I'm staying with plays a little bit longer, and I sense we have a pretty good thing going now."

Shaun Alexander topped the 5,000 yards rushing mark for his career, and is now in third place on the Seahawks' all-time list behind Chris Warren (6,706) and Curt Warner (6,705).

Seattle has now swept the 49ers for the second-straight year and are now 6-6 in the all-time series. More good news for Seattle: with St. Louis losing at home to New England 40-22, the Hawks now have a 1-game lead atop the NFC West over the Rams. And the Seahawks have a score to settle with those very same Rams on the road next week.

The Seahawks totaled 453 yards of offense: 269 passing and 184 rushing, with 26 first downs and a 9-for-14 3rd-down conversion rate. The 42-point total tops the 41 scored in last year's 44-41 overtime lost at Baltimore, and was six short of the 48 scored against Minnesota on Sept. 29, 2002 at Qwest Field.

The 5-3 Seahawks now prepare for a divisional showdown next Sunday against the 4-4 Rams, who have lost two of their last three games at home.

A Valiant Effort

But an unfortunate loss. It's scary to think what the coaches will think of in two weeks to improve on one of the NFL's best offenses and defenses. Running back Shaun Alexander has six touchdowns just by himself, which is more than the Dolphins and Cardinals put together. And cornerback Ken Lucas is fresh off a Player of the Week performance. It's good to be a Seahawk right now. "In a perfect world you would like to keep playing," said coach Mike Holmgren.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://seahawksmania.blogspot.com/2004/10/yeah.html' title='Yeah!! I am: they'll be in bayou country, facing the Saints Septemeber 12, and I'll be in my living room in front of the TV with a few cold ones and some pizza.

A Solid NFC West Lead

Yeah! The Seahawks, led by fourth-string QB Seneca Wallace, defeated the Packers 21-3 in their preseason opener. With Seattle's No. 2 and 3 quarterbacks sidelined with injuries, Wallace replaced starter Matt Hasselbeck in the first quarter and took full advantage of his opportunity. He played most of the game and displayed the rifle arm and poise he has showed in practice. Wallace finished 14 of 26 for 135 yards and tossed a touchdown. "We caught lots of passes and ran a little bit," head coach Mike Holmgren said. "So we put some things together offensively."

Seahawks Schedule

Here's the 2004 Seattle Seahawks schedule:

2004 Preseason
Date Opponent Time/Result
Aug. 16 at Green Bay 8:00 p.m.
Aug. 21 Denver 10:00 p.m.
Aug. 27 at San Diego 10:00 p.m.
Sept. 2 Minnesota 9:00 p.m.
